H.R.3218 – Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017
The bill aims to amend title 38, United States Code, to make certain improvements in the laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
To that end The bill increases access to many educational assistance programs including work study programs and the pursuit of independent study programs at certain educational institutions that are not institutions of higher learning and improves the administration of those programs.
The bill provides funds to State approving agencies, training for school certifying officials and provides for prior enrollment in certain courses of education.
Members of the reserves are made eligible and training and rehabilitation for veterans with service-connected disabilities are provided for.
Finally the in-applicability of modification of basic allowances for housing to benefits is repealed.
