H.CON.RES.322 Expressing the Sense of Congress regarding the contribution of the USO to the morale and welfare of our servicemen and women of our armed forces and their families.

                                                                                         

After 65  years in business the USO now operates 124 centers and 6 mobile units world-wide and handles the needs of 5 million visitors each year.

 

The USO was chartered by Congress as the non-profit, charitable corporation authorized to deliver aid and comfort to our servicemen and servicewomen. The organization survives on contributions from citizens and businesses, and 12,000 volunteers who donate over 450,000 hours yearly.

 

2006, then is the 65th anniversary of the USO.

Whereas the USO is celebrating its 65th anniversary of dedicated service;

Whereas the USO is the only nonprofit, charitable corporation, chartered by Congress and endorsed by the President of the United States and the Department of Defense, to deliver aid and comfort to our servicemen and servicewomen;

Whereas the USO operates 124 centers and 6 mobile canteens around the world that provide support to servicemen and servicewomen and their families who visit the facilities more than 5,000,000 times per year;

Whereas the USO relies on over 12,000 volunteers providing approximately 450,000 hours of service per year, in peacetime or in conflict;

Whereas the Congress recognizes that the USO is critical to the success of the Nation's military mission, by providing the only reliable private connection directly supporting the morale, welfare, and recreational needs of the American military; and

Whereas this crucial link to our military is made possible through the generous contributions of more than 1,000,000 American citizens and score of corporations: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That the Congress hereby extends its gratitude to the USO on its 65th anniversary, and recognize that its hard work supporting servicemen and servicewomen is critical to the success and mission of the military.
